San Antonio, TX – Woman Killed, Man Critically Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on I-35 Near St. Mary’s St
San Antonio, TX (October 22, 2025) – A woman lost her life and a man was critically injured late Sunday night, October 19, after a suspected drunk driver traveling the wrong way caused a head-on collision on Interstate 35 near St. Mary’s Street.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the crash occurred around 11:45 p.m. when 42-year-old Carlos Guerra drove a blue 2021 Chevy Silverado south in the northbound lanes of I-35. A Bexar County deputy spotted the wrong-way vehicle and attempted to stop it using emergency lights, but Guerra did not yield. Moments later, the Silverado crashed head-on into a white 2024 Chevy Express traveling north.
Police confirmed that a 50-year-old woman riding in the Chevy Express was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Express, a 50-year-old man, was transported to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. Guerra was evaluated, arrested at the scene, and charged with intoxicated manslaughter and intoxication assault.
The name of the woman who died has not yet been released pending official identification.
