San Antonio, TX – Four Killed in Collision on I-35 near Leon Creek
San Antonio, TX (July 18, 2025) — A devastating multi-vehicle collision on South Interstate 35 near the Leon Creek area claimed four lives and injured over a dozen more on Thursday afternoon, July 17, following a chaotic chain reaction that began with a stolen vehicle.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m., according to San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus. Authorities say a stolen white Chevrolet Camaro, carrying four occupants, struck a trailer being hauled by a transport bus. The violent impact caused the bus to lose control and veer into the path of an adjacent 18-wheeler. The semi collided with the bus, which then overturned and slammed into a guardrail. In the chaos, multiple passengers were ejected from the bus.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and provided aid to a wide range of victims—children, adults, and elderly passengers among them. Two individuals were pronounced dead on-site, while two others succumbed to their injuries later that evening at local hospitals, bringing the total death toll to four. At least 18 others sustained injuries of varying severity.
The four individuals inside the stolen Camaro reportedly fled the scene on foot. One of them was seen carrying what appeared to be an assault rifle. A manhunt and investigation are currently underway as law enforcement continues to piece together the events that led to this horrific tragedy.
Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all who were affected. We wish strength and healing to those recovering from this heartbreaking event.
