Austin, TX – Fatal Semi-Truck Crash on I-35 near 38 1/2 St

Austin, TX (August 17, 2025) – On August 16, a deadly crash on southbound Interstate 35 brought traffic to a standstill after an 18-wheeler was involved in a multi-vehicle collision. The incident occurred around midnight in the 3400 block of the lower deck near 38 ½ Street.

According to the Austin Police Department, one person—not the truck driver—was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:37 a.m. Two additional individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities closed all southbound lanes for several hours while investigating the crash and removing the wreckage.
