Temple, TX – Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit by 18-Wheeler on I-35 SB Near Exit 298

Temple, TX (October 8, 2025) – A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday afternoon, October 6, while attempting to cross Interstate 35 southbound near Exit 298 in Temple.

According to the Temple Police Department, officers responded to the crash around 3:38 p.m. after an 18-wheeler driven by 32-year-old Jesus Garcia hit the pedestrian. Investigators said Garcia initially failed to stop after the collision and continued driving down the highway before stopping near Salado, where he was arrested for failure to stop and render aid involving personal injury or death.

The Temple Police Department’s Traffic Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation to determine the full circumstances of the fatal crash. The affected stretch of I-35 remained closed for several hours while authorities processed the scene.
