Butler Co., KS – Hydroplane Crash on SB I-35 Near Cassoday Leaves 1 Seriously Injured
Butler County, KS (September 19, 2025) – On Wednesday, September 17, a hydroplane crash on southbound Interstate 35 near Cassoday left one passenger with serious injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox hydroplaned due to speed and wet road conditions, striking the inside barrier and rolling.
An 80-year-old passenger, Anna Wachsmuth of Hoffman Estates, IL, was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with serious injuries. Two other occupants, Pamela Castro, 51, the driver, and Paul Castro, 21, also of Dubuque, IA, were taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuries.
All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the incident. Our thoughts are with the injured individuals, and we hope for a full recovery.
