Albert Lea, MN – Crash on I-35 near CR 46 Leaves Five Injured, Two Critical

Albert Lea, MN (October 19, 2025) – A serious three-vehicle collision on Interstate 35 in Freeborn County left five people injured on Saturday, October 18, including two with life-threatening injuries.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:12 p.m. near County Road 46 when a 1999 Ford Explorer, driven by 25-year-old Anthony Lee Graham of Austin, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. Graham’s vehicle struck a 2025 Honda CRV driven by 54-year-old Angela Johnson of Medina, who had her husband, 55-year-old Jeffrey Johnson, as a passenger. Following the initial collision, an oncoming 1997 Chevy GMT-400 pickup driven by 85-year-old Harold Boverhuis of Brownsdale also collided with the Explorer.

Authorities confirmed that Graham and his passenger, 30-year-old Tabitha Caballero of Mankato, were both injured, with Caballero rushed to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester due to life-threatening injuries. Angela Johnson was also transported to St. Marys with critical injuries. Meanwhile, Graham, Boverhuis, and Jeffrey Johnson were taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash report noted that alcohol was not a factor, but seatbelt usage varied among those involved, with Caballero not restrained at the time of impact. The Minnesota State Patrol, along with the Albert Lea Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office, and Fire Rescue, responded to the scene. Investigators continue to review the circumstances that led to the tragic wrong-way collision.
